It is with great sadness that we report the untimely death of our colleague and dear friend, Maurice Bennett.  Maurice died on August 28, 2008 at the age of 37 from a short illness.  The following obituary appeared in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on September 5, 2008.  We will always remember Maurice for his great skill as a lawyer, but more importantly, as a wonderful friend. 

BENNETT, Maurice Memorial Services for Attorney Maurice Bennett, of Atlanta, Georgia, formerly of North Carolina, will be held Monday, September 8, 2008, 1:00 P. M. at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, 6400 Woodrow Road, Lithonia, Bishop Eddie Long, Pastor. Maurice was a native of North Carolina but resided in the Atlanta area for over fifteen years. He attended New Birth Missionary Baptist Church. Maurice graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 1996, he graduated from the Emory School of Law. During his undergraduate career, he pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. Prior to starting his own criminal defense and entertainment practice, Maurice served as an Assistant Solicitor in DeKalb County. When not working, Maurice's passion was traveling and entertaining others. Maurice Bennett leaves to cherish his memory loving parents: Malcolm and Magdalene Bennett Sr., Benson, NC; his grandmother, Ms. Lena McNeil, Benson, NC; two sisters: Evelyn McNeil, Dunn, NC and Phyllis Everett, Clayton, NC; two brothers: Malcolm Bennett, Jr. and Michael Bennett, Raleigh, NC; a devoted aunt: Belinda McNeil, Atlanta, Georgia; and a host of relatives and friends.
